Whether you want to add some German folk art to your home decor or you are looking for that perfect Christmas gift from Germany, our collection of traditional German weather houses will add a touch of folk art charm to any home.
Dating back to the 19th century and adopting Erzgebirge’s traditional folk art style, German Black Forest weather houses are great at injecting some quirkiness — but above all, they tell the weather! This works by using a hygrometer to indicate if the weather is humid and damp or dry.
All of our German weather houses are handcrafted in Germany and can be shipped worldwide. Shop our wide collection of traditional German weather houses here:
But how do they work? German weather houses are typically made in the style of an A-frame chalet, with two figurines housed inside. These two figurines, traditionally a girl and boy, are connected to the inner workings, which indicates the type of weather outside. If the boy is seen outside the German weather house, it means the weather is damp, and if the girl figurine is out, it represents fine weather.
German weather houses continue to be handmade in Germany’s Black Forest, using many of the same woodworking techniques practised hundreds of years ago. So why not add a piece of history into your home with an authentic German weather house?
